February, 2009 – Floral Park, NY - In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2009 the Long Island Board of REALTORS® Inc. (LIBOR) presented a check to New York City’s Department of Parks & Recreation at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens.  On behalf of the “We’re More Than Realtors®” campaign, a donation in the amount of $2,500 will be used towards a “beautification” project for the park.  Joining in the celebration was Queens Borough President Helen Marshall.

Due to the weather, the event took place at the office of Assistant Commissioner, Queens Parks, Estelle Cooper, Administrator of Flushing Meadows Corona Park.  Cooper notes that “Meadow Lake acts as an urban backyard for many of the residents of the parks’ surrounding communities.” The generous funding will be used to enhance this area with additional picnic tables and benches.

Flushing Meadow Corona Park has become the keystone park of Queens and a recreation and cultural center for the region.  The park consists of 1,255 acres of athletic fields, landscaped meadows, lakes, fountains, playgrounds, stadia, museums and a zoo. This park is used every day by people from the entire region, whether to watch a sporting event, go for a run or enjoy one of the park’s many cultural institutions. Long Island Realtors® are proud to assist in the maintenance and growth of this wonderful playground for New Yorkers old and young alike.

This donation was made through the Long Island Board of REALTORS® “We’re More Than REALTORS®…” initiative, which supports numerous programs and charitable community organizations.  The “We’re More Than Realtors® campaign was created by the LIBOR Public Relations Committee.  The campaign raises the public’s awareness about Realtors® and their philanthropic efforts within their communities.
