LONG ISLAND BOARD OF REALTORS SPONSOR REALTORS AGAINST HUNGER (RAH)
June 2008 - West Babylon, NY - The Long Island Board
of Realtors® is mobilizing a campaign to fight hunger in our local
communities. Realtors Against Hunger (RAH) will be collecting
donations of non perishable food items from August 1st – 15th at
various real estate offices throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens to
support efforts to provide food to hundreds of local food pantries, soup
kitchens, shelters and other programs that feed the hungry. “With
more than 300,000 children and adults facing hunger or potential malnutrition
in the region the Long Island Board of Realtors (LIBOR) must respond
to the needs of our communities, especially in these difficult times
for so many families,” said Mohsen Zandieh, LIBOR President.
Realtors Against Hunger (RAH) is part of the Long Island Board of Realtor’s “We’re
More Than Realtors®…” initiative that supports numerous
programs and charitable community organizations. A kick-off celebration
for the campaign will be hosted at Citibank Park in Islip on July 31st
at the start of the Long Island Ducks baseball game. In addition
to Realtors, The Long Island Ducks and Long Island Cares, The Harry Chapin
Food Bank will be on hand to accept donations of non-perishable food. “We’re
very excited about the Realtors Against Hunger campaign that will support
the work of our network of more than 540 member agencies that feed the
hungry on Long Island, said Paule Pachter, Executive Director, Long Island
Cares. “The support of LIBOR and their affiliates throughout
the tri-county region is especially needed during these very difficult
economic times when so many families are finding it hard to put nutritious
food on their tables while the cost of fuel and basic food staples are
dramatically increasing,” explained Pachter.
Food donations can
be brought to Realtor Service Centers in Jackson Heights, West Babylon,
Riverhead and Woodbury as well as local Realtor offices. “As
professionals we are witnessing first-hand the impact of the economy on
families and how the escalating cost of fuel and other challenges are resulting
in families having little or no food. We cannot stand by and
watch our communities struggle. We will work diligently to fill these pantries
and stamp out hunger” explained Joe Sinnona, Chairperson
of LIBOR’s PR Committee.
